MEST4 Preliminary exercise: evaluation

1) Why did you choose this particular recreation and how does it link to your main production?
The recreation was a music video which is what my main production going to be. I chose Adele- Hello so I could play around with editing. I also chose seeing how it is a pop song which is the genre I will be considering for my main production

 2) What difficulties did you face in producing this recreation?

The sun proved to be a difficulty when filming as it changed the lighting when I used the camera and was making everything go white. The environment was also difficult because on the day I was filming there was no wind and in the music video, the setting shows a windy environment.

 3) What are the strengths of the production?

I was able to imitate well the colour of the music video as I used the sepia filter for my recreation because in the actual music video, it is a sepia colour. I was also able to get my shot by shot clips done to a certain extent.

4) What aspects would you look to improve?

If I were to redo my recreation, I would try to improve the parts where I play around with focusing as it didn't prove to be similar to how it was in the Adele music video. I want to also improve with my decision making when filming for example lighting. If the sun is affecting the lighting in the camera, then maybe I should try another time or day to film.

5) What lessons will you take from this process that will help you with your main production?

I have to be more careful with lighting if I am filming outside as the sun can affect lighting. I need to also think about improving my focusing skills which I want to use for my main production. From looking at my recreation, its clear that this skill needs improving.

6) Now that you are ready to start your actual linked production, explain clearly what you will be creating and how confident you are in delivering this.

I will be creating a 4min (approx.) music video. It will either be a pop or hip-hop genre music video and I will look to develop a strong meaning behind the music video perhaps about women so that it clearly links to my critical investigation. I am confident that I will be able to input my ideas onto the music video and make it look professionally as possible by taking in or the lessons I have learned from my recreation of Adele- Hello.
